Enrollment time - What has been happening at Roncalli?
Since October of 2015 the Aberdeen Catholic School System (ACSS) has embarked on a unique, robust, and energetic journey of academic revitalization securely rooted in our spiritual foundation.
Together with Northern State University the ACSS has invested in a 12 credit graduate STREAM certification program and your PreK – 6th grade teachers have begun their second class. Although the expectation for digital competency is high, being able to cause powerful and meaningful learning is the crux of the course.
Our initiative is like no other in the state of South Dakota. There has not been any other school that has engaged in such an ambitious systemic K-12 professional development endeavor. Along with thoughtful and strategically planned professional development from NSU, Roncalli experiences synchronicity with a new high-end, high-tech SmartLab being professionally installed by Creative Learning Systems. Our ACSS teachers are our greatest asset. An effective school understands that success is directly related to people, not programs. In addition to meaningful, high quality professional development and high tech modern equipment, Roncalli is committed to maintaining competitive salaries. In the face of recent and significant public school teacher pay increases, Roncalli has invested in salaries to attract and retain highly qualified teachers.
Roncalli First Lego League (FLL) competed for the first time this year and qualified and competed at state. FLL is an academic team oriented robotics competition. This academic competition is working in conjunction with all of the initiatives described above and is one of many exciting, innovative and unique opportunities students will begin to enjoy for years to come. Other new initiatives are the Ag program and FFA Chapter that began this year at the high school. The first new bricks and mortar construction will begin at the high school as we finally update our public restrooms and locker rooms.
