Given the complexities of our modern world, it’s never been more important for children to start with a foundational education. At Roncalli, that means an uplifting Catholic experience that is one of a kind in South Dakota. We are rooted in traditions but built to prepare students for tomorrow.
With around 185 students across PreK-1, we proudly maintain a small-school, family-like atmosphere. Our class sizes ensure individual attention.

Teaching Philosophy
Our philosophy is to meet every child where they are and help them to feel safe and loved. Learning is active, engaging and hands on. We want to instill a love of learning and set them up for a lifetime of success. Most importantly, we want to show them the love of Jesus and bring them closer to him.
Sonshine Patch Preschool
Preschool is an integral part of most 3, 4, and 5 year olds’ lives. We are fortunate enough here to offer a quality preschool program staffed by qualified, caring adults. Our goal for the preschool is to offer the children a Christian based preschool program. Activities are based on weekly themes throughout the year. We use a hands-on, child centered approach.
By the end of the school year, we hope to have given all children a quality preschool experience, abundant in learning, social skills, cognitive skills and a variety of playtime experiences. Learn more about Sonshine Patch on our Preschool page.
Kindergarten Goals
Our goal in kindergarten is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for all children. We strive to meet every child’s needs and prepare them for first grade. Through forming relationships, creating an environment of trust and mutual respect, and allowing the child to lead the direction of his/her learning, we are building a strong foundation for the child’s school career.
First Grade
The foundation for future learning is developed here. Students will start to build their learning skills while being exposed to a variety of subjects. Classes are designed to spark interest and curiosity in your student. Prayer and education of Catholic teachings are part of the daily activities. STREAM activities introduce your child to critical thinking and problem solving skills. This approach allows learning to become relevant to each student and produces global thinkers who are ready for a world outside of our school.
